If you adore the old Royal Enfield Himalayan, we have good news. The company has confirmed the return of the original Himalayan ADV bike, but this time with a more powerful engine and a six-speed gearbox.
The new Himalayan 440 will share its platform with the Scram 440, and it will be launched on September 4, 2026. Considering its big fan base, Royal Enfield is likely to retain its iconic design.
Royal Enfield Himalayan 440: What do we know so far?
The upcoming Himalayan 440 will feature the brand’s LS440 engine. This engine is essentially a reworked unit based on the 411cc oil-cooled engine of the first-gen Himalayan 411.
The LS440 is a single-cylinder engine with an air/oil-cooled setup, which is paired with a 6-speed gearbox, offering 25.4 bhp and 34 Nm on the Scram 440. This engine essentially rectifies the shortcomings of the Himalayan 411, but retains its character.
Visually, the Himalayan 440 is likely to be more or less the same as the old Himalayan 411. The major difference will be the new colours and 21-inch front/17-inch rear tyre setup. The latter is likely to be a spoked setup with tube tyres.
The whole point of the Himalayan 440 is to close the gap between the Scram 440 and the Himalayan 450. The Scram 440 is priced at Rs 2.30 lakh, and we believe that the Himalayan 440 will be priced around Rs 2.50 lakh.
To keep the price in check, Royal Enfield will not equip it with new-gen features like a digital screen, ride modes, etc. However, we can safely say that a Tripper navigation pod could be offered as standard equipment.
Since it will continue using an oil-cooled motor, the low-end performance will be extremely tractable, unlike the Himalayan 450, which has weak low-end torque due to the liquid cooling.
