Honda has patented its UC3 electric scooter in India, adding another model to its growing global electric two-wheeler portfolio. The scooter is already sold in Thailand and Vietnam, but the Indian patent does not confirm a launch here. Honda has previously patented products in India purely to protect their intellectual property.
The UC3 is different from Honda’s Activa e as it uses a fixed battery, rather than a swappable battery setup. It is also Honda’s first electric scooter to use LFP battery chemistry.
Battery and range
The Honda UC3 gets a 3.2 kWh LFP battery, with Honda claiming a range of 122 km per charge under Thailand’s WMTC Mode 1 certification. The battery is claimed to support more than 1,500 charging cycles.
Power comes from a 6 kW wheel-side electric motor, which Honda says delivers performance equivalent to a 110 cc-class petrol scooter. Some market reports quote around 8 bhp for the motor. The claimed top speed is 80 kmph. Charging can be carried out at up to 1.2kW. The scooter rides on 12-inch wheels and uses CBS braking, rather than ABS.
Maxi scooter meets neo-retro design
The UC3 has an unusual design that combines a maxi-scooter-like front section with neo-retro styling at the rear. It gets a three-piece LED DRL setup that also incorporates the turn indicators, while the main LED headlamp sits below it.
A windshield is positioned above the lighting setup, with the charging flap integrated into this area. The scooter also gets a distinctive layered seat, LED tail-lamp and a relatively compact rear section.
Equipment includes a 5-inch TFT instrument cluster with Honda RoadSync connectivity, traction control, three riding modes, reverse assist, adaptive regeneration, a Smart Key with keyless go and a Type-C charging port. Under-seat storage capacity stands at 26 litres.
India launch remains uncertain
Honda has not announced an India launch timeline for the UC3. Its patent filing is therefore best viewed as an indication that Honda is protecting the model’s design and technology in India, rather than confirmation of an upcoming launch.
