Three decades ago, Hyundai entered India as the new kid on the block. Today, it stands as one of the country’s most trusted carmakers, with millions of customers and a strong export footprint.
Now, Hyundai Motor India is celebrating its 30th foundation day, marking a journey that has transformed both the brand and India’s passenger vehicle landscape.
13.5 million units sold and counting
Since entering India in 1996, Hyundai has sold over 13.5 million vehicles. Out of this, more than 9.6 million units were sold in India, while over 3.9 million vehicles were exported to more than 150 countries.
Cars like the Hyundai Verna, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Hyundai Aura have played a major role in building this global presence.
Big investments incoming
The company has already invested Rs 40,700 crore in India since inception. Now, it has announced another Rs 45,000 crore investment roadmap for the period between FY26 and FY30.
This investment will focus on:
- Manufacturing expansion
- Electrification
- Future mobility solutions
- New product development
Hyundai has confirmed plans to introduce 26 new products and variants by FY2030. This will include completely new nameplates, full model changes, facelifts, and product upgrades.
India – Manufacturing hub
Hyundai’s manufacturing footprint in India is growing fast. Its Chennai and Talegaon plants currently offer a combined annual production capacity of 9.94 lakh units. By 2028, that figure will rise to 10.74 lakh units.
The Talegaon plant, operational since 2025, has further strengthened Hyundai’s manufacturing backbone and positions India as a major global production and export hub for the Korean carmaker.

The company says it now covers 78 percent of Indian districts.
Sustainability initiatives
Hyundai is also putting serious emphasis on sustainability. All its plants and offices in India now operate on 100 percent renewable energy under the RE100 initiative.
The company has also implemented:
- 350+ energy efficiency projects in five years
- Rainwater harvesting systems meeting 80 percent of Chennai plant’s water needs
- Zero liquid discharge at key facilities
Through the Hyundai Motor India Foundation, the company has invested over Rs 803 crore in CSR initiatives since 2014.
Its efforts have impacted over 2.2 million lives annually through:
- Education support
- Skill development
- Healthcare outreach
- Environmental restoration
That includes planting over 1.29 million trees and supporting more than 2,300 schools.
With fresh EVs, hybrids, and new-generation ICE products in the pipeline, the next five years could be among the most transformative for the brand.
