- India launch unlikely
Kawasaki has revealed the all-new KLE650 adventure motorcycle in the US. The KLE650 is the second model in the KLE range that was introduced with the KLE500. Kawasaki has announced two variants for the KLE650 with a new-generation 650cc parallel-twin engine.
Kawasaki KLE650: Everything to know
The new KLE650 adventure motorcycle takes its inspiration from the smaller KLE500. In fact, the new ADV is based on an identical steel trellis frame as the KLE500.
The major draw is its new-generation 649cc parallel-twin engine. While Kawasaki has not disclosed the complete details of this engine, the US website lists 70 bhp and 64 Nm. This engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox, and it is likely to come with a slip-assist clutch as standard.
Further, the KLE650 is suspended over the 43 mm USD forks, offering 210 mm of travel, while the rear gets a Uni-Trak monoshock unit with preload adjustment and 195 mm of travel. The braking duties are covered by a 300 mm front and a 230 mm rear disc brake, which gets dual-channel ABS with switchable functionality, along with traction control modes.
The bike comes in two variants: Standard and SE. Both variants pack a 21-inch front and a 17-inch rear wheel. However, only the SE variant gets cross-spoke tubeless rims with Dunlop Trailmax Mixtour tyres.
The overall styling of the KLE650 is almost identical to the KLE500, save for the different graphics and a bulkier profile. The key design highlights include the twin-pod LED headlights, a tall windscreen, wide handlebar, a single seat with an upright riding stance, and a sleeker profile.
The electronics package includes the TFT console, offering features like navigation support, traction control modes, electronic cruise control, a bi-directional quickshifter, and a USB-C charging port. The protection accessories include knuckle guards and a belly guard.
Kawasaki has not announced any plans to launch the KLE range in India anytime soon. However, considering that the Indian market has huge potential for the middleweight ADVs, the KLE500 and KLE650 could debut in the near future.
