Key highlights
- Mahindra XEV 9S is now available with a six-seat layout
- Second row gets individual captain seats
- Six-seat option is offered on Pack Two Above, Pack Three and Pack Three Above variants
Mahindra has quietly added another choice to the XEV 9S lineup. The electric SUV is now available with a six-seat configuration, replacing the conventional second-row bench with two individual captain seats.
Individual captain seats in the second row
The biggest change is, obviously, in the second row. Instead of the standard bench, the six-seat XEV 9S gets two individual captain seats, creating a clear space between them.
That should make access to the third row easier while also giving second-row passengers a more lounge-like experience. The XEV 9S already offers features such as ventilated second-row seats, depending on the variant, so the captain-seat layout should make the higher-spec versions particularly appealing for chauffeur-driven buyers.
The standard XEV 9S comes with a 60:40 split second-row bench with multi-step recline, along with sliding functionality.
Available only on higher variants
Mahindra isn’t offering the captain-seat configuration across the entire XEV 9S range. The option is restricted to the Pack Two Above, Pack Three and Pack Three Above variants. This means buyers choosing the more affordable versions will continue with the standard seven-seat configuration.
The XEV 9S is currently offered with 59 kWh, 70 kWh and 79 kWh battery options, depending on the variant. The 79 kWh versions get Mahindra’s higher-output powertrain, while the range-topping versions also bring a long list of premium features.
Still a tech-heavy electric SUV
Higher variants also get features such as 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio with Dolby Atmos, Level 2+ ADAS, ventilated front and second-row seats, adaptive suspension and Mahindra’s triple-screen setup, depending on the variant.
The XEV 9S starts at around Rs 20.70 lakh (ex-showroom) in Mumbai, with the range-topping Pack Three Above currently priced at around Rs 30.20 lakh.
With the new captain-seat option, Mahindra is essentially giving buyers another reason to consider the XEV 9S as a premium family EV rather than just a large electric SUV.
