What to expect from the Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG?
As reported online by a media agency, the XUV 3XO will soon get a factory-fitted CNG powertrain. This powertrain is likely to be based on the 1.2-litre MPFi engine.
Mind you, the XUV 3XO gets two petrol engines, and both are 1.2-litre turbocharged. However, one is an MPFi setup, while the other is a DI or direct-injection setup. The former engine has a much simpler construction for CNG compatibility, and Mahindra is likely to use it for the CNG option.
Moreover, the 295 litres of boot space of the XUV 3XO is not inspiring, and the CNG tanks will practically kill the boot space. So, a higher possibility is that Mahindra will either opt for the underbody tank placement like the Maruti Victoris, or it will use a dual-cylinder technology as seen on the Tata Nexon.
Mahindra’s main target is to shift the focus from heavier SUVs to the more economical options, which include the bi-fuel CNG option. The latter has been absent from the XUV 3XO, while its rivals like the Tata Nexon and Maruti Brezza top the sales charts with their CNG powertrains.
The CNG-equipped XUV 3XO is likely to be launched either by the end of this year or early next year. It will be priced competitively as per the segment rivals.
