During the recent 2026 CEO Investor Day, Hyundai revealed that it will debut a made-in-India EV that this new compact EV will be launched in India by March 2027. This new compact EV will be based on the Inster EV’s E-GMP (K) platform, which means that it will be sub-4-metre.
Additionally, in a media interaction, Tarun Garg, CEO of Hyundai Motor India, confirmed that this electric compact SUV will be unveiled much earlier. He revealed that it will be unveiled in India before the end of this year. Moreover, he also revealed that this EV will source its battery cells from Svolt, while the brand plans to shift to Exide at a later stage as part of its original plan.
Speaking of the details, the test units of this unnamed EV were previously spotted in South Korea, revealing its Kei car design that featured a boxy silhouette with big window glass, machine-cut aerodynamic alloys, and a spacious cabin layout. Notably, it will be based on the Inster EV, which is offered with a 42 kWh and a 49 kWh battery option in the international market. The Inster EV offers a maximum WLTP-claimed range of up to 355 km.
Meanwhile, the brand has confirmed that this EV will also be offered in two range options: standard and extended-range. We can safely say that the battery size and drivetrain of this electric SUV will be shared with the Inster EV. The car will also come loaded with tech and safety features, including the likes of ADAS, LED lights, a connected display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, etc.
Codenamed HE1i, this compact EV will target the Mahindra XUV3XO EV, Tata Nexon EV, and the Kia Syros EV.
