JLR has finally revealed its first-ever all-electric model, called the Range Rover Electric. Although this electric SUV has not been hidden from the world, as the brand recently displayed it at the Goodwood Speed Festival. But now it is available for pre-orders, including the Indian market.

Battery specs, range, performance
The newly revealed Range Rover Electric is based on the company’s new EMA platform, which is an 800V architecture that encloses a 118.5 kWh lithium-ion double-stack battery that is paired with a dual-motor silicon carbide setup. This setup offers a peak power output of 543 bhp and 850 Nm, as the brand claims that the new EV offers equivalent performance to the V8 engine-equipped ICE version.
Speaking of the numbers, it can sprint 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, while rolling acceleration from 20-80 km/h takes just 2.7 seconds, making it insanely quick for its size and weight. Meanwhile, the brand states that it can deliver up to 600 km of range in ideal conditions as per WLTP tests. However, a real-world range is quoted at around 535 km in standard driving conditions.
The electric Range Rover supports up to 350 kW of DC charging, which can juice it up from 10 to 80 percent in just 22 minutes, while adding a range of 220 km in 10 minutes of charging. Moreover, the brand is offering split-charging capability, which makes it more practical for users.
With electrification, the SUV has not forgotten its off-road roots. The brand claims that it has an Integrated Traction Management system that works in sync with the Intelligent Driveline Dynamics. These systems work together to distribute 100 percent to 0 percent torque, depending on the traction level. Thus, the SUV never loses traction while off-roading.
Other key off-roading numbers include 900 mm of water wading capacity, a single-pedal drive mode that offers up to 33 degrees of approach angle and 45 degrees of gradeability. Meanwhile, the SUV gets a twin-chamber air suspension for smooth ride quality and improved handling.
Additionally, it features ‘ThermAssist’ heat management system that can add up to 40 km of range by reducing heat energy by 40 percent. JLR has tested the Range Rover Electric for over 1.5 million kilometres through Sweden and Dubai, ensuring extreme weather compatibility of the EV with temperatures ranging from -40 degree celcuis to +90 degree celcius. It also gets a standard warranty of 8 years and 160,000 km.
Design and features
In terms of the exterior design, it looks identical to the conventional Range Rover. The brand did not want to cover the fascia or induce EV-like design traits, and kept the original Range Rover design philosophy alive on it.
Indian customers get a choice between a standard-wheelbase Autobiography trim or long-wheelbase (LWB) SV, SV Ultra, and SV Black variants. There is also a limited-run First Edition that gets the Belgravia Green exterior colour, along with the newly introduced interior trim that uses Santorini Black or Varesine Blue colours.
Price and availability
JLR has yet to announce the price of the Range Rover EV in India. Although its pre-orders have commenced, it is expected to be available for deliveries by this year’s end.
