What to expect from the Tata flex fuel car?
During the company’s latest earnings call, Shailesh Chandra, MD & CEO, Tata Passenger Vehicles, revealed that the company is in the final stages of developing a production-ready flex fuel car. While the official did not reveal any further details, he did tell that this car could be introduced in a production-ready avatar either by late 2026 or early 2027.
Speaking about the flex fuel tech, the carmaker had earlier showcased a flex fuel prototype based on the Punch. In fact, in 2025, Shailesh himself revealed to the media that whenever the adaptation will take place for the higher ethanol blended fuels, Punch will be the first model to receive a flex fuel engine. Additionally, the company also showcased a flex fuel prototype based on the Punch during the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025.
However, Shailesh Chandra also revealed that the brand is awaiting the final verdict of the government on the E85 roll out. The launch of the flex fuel car will only make sense when the higher ethanol blend fuel is rolled out. Meanwhile, the government has recently drafted an amendment in the CMV rules to cover E85 and E100 fuel.
