BYD has officially announced the launch date of its first plug-in hybrid car in the Indian market. While the brand has not revealed the exact model and its details, we have all the information you need to know about it. Know more details below.

BYD plug-in hybrid SUV: What do we know so far?
BYD’s first plug-in hybrid SUV is coming soon to India. Powered by the trademarked ‘DM-i Super Plug-in Hybrid’ engine, this unnamed SUV could either be the Atto 2 or Sealion 6.
Speaking of the Atto 2, it debuted last year in the global market as a mid-size SUV. Competing with the likes of Maruti Grand Vitara and Hyundai Creta, the Atto 2 is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine, which is paired with either a 7.8 kWh battery or an 18 kWh battery. The latter pair offers a pure electric range of up to 39 km, while the total range extends up to 998 km on a full tank of fuel.
On the other hand, the Sealion 6 DM-i Hybrid SUV had also been spotted on the Indian roads. If the PHEV SUV is the Sealion 6, it will be a premium offering. The Sealion 6 PHEV comes paired with a 1.5-litre petrol engine in a naturally aspirated and a turbo guise.
The former is paired to an 18.3 kWh battery pack, offering 218 bhp, 140 km EV range, and a total range of up to 1,092 km. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre turbo engine comes with an AWD, and it offers 344 bhp and 128 km of EV range, as it is paired with a 26.6 kWh battery pack.
With that said, BYD is most probably going to introduce the Sealion 6 as per our anticipation. If so, the Sealion 6 PHEV will compete with the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line and the new Skoda Kodiaq. Hence, it could be priced well above Rs 45-50 lakh.
