Upcoming Hyundai Bayon-based SUV to get petrol & CNG options

Key highlights

  • Hyundai Bayon-based SUV to get petrol and CNG engine options
  • Likely to debut in September 2026
  • It will undercut Creta in terms of pricing

A latest online report claims that the upcoming Bayon-based Hyundai SUV will be powered by petrol and CNG engine options. The petrol version will likely feature the Creta-sourced 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor, which will get a 6-speed manual and a CVT gearbox option. Meanwhile, the CNG engine will be based on the 1.5-litre petrol engine, and it will be offered with the underbody CNG tank and a 6-speed manual transmission.

What to expect from the Hyundai Bayon-based SUV?

The upcoming Bayon-based SUV is named Bc4i internally. This SUV will be Hyundai’s second model in the mid-size segment after Creta. While Creta focuses on a butch SUV outlook and powerful performance with multiple engine options, the Bc4i will undercut it slightly. The online reports claim that it will be Hyundai’s answer to the Maruti Victoris, but we suspect that the whole focus will be to offer affordability, efficiency, and comfort to the mid-size SUV buyers.

The Bayon-based SUV will be an alternative to Creta buyers with a crossover-like styling and a big cabin with a comfortable rear seat experience. Since it will be based on the Bayon crossover, it is expected to offer an engaging driving experience. The Bayon is a worldwide popular crossover that is famous for its family-oriented cabin practicality and comfortable driving dynamics, along with reliable engine options.

In terms of features, Hyundai will pack the Bc4i production version with the Pleos infotainment system and a new three-spoke steering wheel sourced from the new-gen models. Additionally, the production-spec car will get high-tech features like a head-up display, a Level 2 ADAS safety suite, wireless charging, LED cabin lights, dual-zone climate control, a premium sound system, etc.

Hyundai is expected to debut this upcoming SUV in September 2026, ahead of the festive season later this year. We anticipate that it will be priced around Rs 9-15 lakh.
