- Volvo India has confirmed two new flagship electric vehicles for the Indian market
- They are expected to be the global ES90 and EX90

Volvo Car India has confirmed that it will expand its electric vehicle lineup in India with the introduction of two new flagship EVs. While the company hasn’t officially revealed their names, they are expected to be the ES90 electric sedan and the EX90 electric SUV, both of which sit at the top of Volvo’s global EV range.
ES90 sedan and EX90 SUV expected
Volvo says the upcoming launches will include one flagship sedan and one flagship SUV.
Although the company hasn’t confirmed the names, the description matches the globally available ES90 and EX90.
Here’s what to expect:
|
Model |
Expected Position |
|
Volvo ES90 |
Flagship electric sedan |
|
Volvo EX90 |
Flagship electric SUV |
The ES90 is expected to rival premium electric sedans like the BMW i5, while the EX90 will become Volvo’s flagship SUV in India.
Latest EV platform
Both models are built on Volvo’s SPA2 architecture, which also introduces an 800V electrical system.
This allows:
- Faster DC charging
- Improved energy efficiency
- Better overall performance
The new platform represents a significant upgrade over Volvo’s current electric offerings in India.
EVs continue to gain ground
Volvo also revealed that electric vehicles now account for one out of every four cars it sells in India. The company’s EV portfolio has grown steadily with the introduction of newer models, while mild-hybrid SUVs such as the XC60 and XC90 continue to contribute to overall sales. The recently launched EX30 has also helped Volvo reach a wider set of premium EV buyers.
Volvo’s electric roadmap
While Volvo remains committed to becoming an all-electric carmaker, the company says it is taking a more flexible approach to the transition. Instead of setting a fixed deadline, Volvo will continue offering both electric and mild-hybrid models depending on customer demand and market readiness.
The ES90 and EX90 are expected to arrive in India later this year, further strengthening the brand’s premium EV portfolio.
