One of India’s most love compact SUV, the Hyundai Creta is set to get its third-generation update. The car was spotted in full camouflage in the US recently. Right of the bat, the new Creta looks much larger than the model it is going to replace.
What we know
We know for sure that the new Creta will bear the same underpinnings as the second-generation Kia Seltos. This means that the new Creta will grow in size just like the Seltos did. The same can be seen on the spyshots as well.
We also know that there will be no changes in the powertrain offerings. It will continue to be available with a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol motor, a 1.5L turbo petrol engine and a 1.5L diesel engine. All three powertrains will get manual and automatic options.
The K3 platform
With the new K3 platform, the Creta is expected to be more fun to drive. The chassis is more rigid and has enhanced structural strength. We can expect the Creta to score a 5-star rating at the B-NCAP test. The chassis has better centre of gravity as well which will offer better ride quality. The K3 platform also supports hybrid powertrains.
Launch timeline
The ageing second-gen of the Creta is still doing good numbers in the C-segment SUV space. Hyundai is not in a hurry to launch the updated Creta even though its spiritual cousin, the Kia Seltos was already launched early this year.
However, give Hyundai’s history of introducing new products during the festive season or towards the end of the calendar year, we could see the new Creta early in India. Tests are already underway in the international markets meaning the car is production ready. It will only be a matter of time before the new Creta is unveiled.
