Tata Motors has taken a significant step toward sustainable mobility with the inauguration of its latest Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) in Kolkata. This marks the company’s eighth scrapping center in India, reinforcing its commitment to eco-friendly vehicle recycling.
State-of-the-art scrapping facility
Named Re.Wi.Re – Recycle with Respect, the facility is designed to safely and sustainably dismantle up to 21,000 end-of-life vehicles annually. Operated in partnership with Selladale Synergies India Pvt. Ltd, the center is equipped to handle the scrapping of passenger cars, commercial vehicles, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers, regardless of brand.
The fully digitalized facility ensures seamless, paperless operations, making the scrapping process efficient and environmentally responsible. Specialized dismantling stations are set up for safe removal of tyres, batteries, fuel, oils, liquids, and gases, adhering to India’s vehicle scrappage policy.
Government and industry support
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Snehasis Chakraborty, Minister of Transport, Government of West Bengal, along with other dignitaries. Speaking at the event, Chakraborty emphasized that the facility would promote the adoption of newer, safer, and energy-efficient vehicles, fostering a circular economy in the transport sector.
Firhad Hakim, Mayor of Kolkata and Minister of Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, highlighted the environmental benefits of the facility, stating that it would reduce the burden of old, polluting vehicles while creating employment opportunities.
Expanding Tata’s scrapping network
With existing RVSFs in Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Surat, Chandigarh, Delhi NCR, Pune, and Guwahati, the Kolkata facility becomes the third Re.Wi.Re center in eastern India, improving accessibility for customers in the region.
Tata Motors Vice President Rajesh Kaul reiterated the company’s commitment to sustainability, stating that Tata Motors now has the capacity to dismantle over 1.3 lakh vehicles annually across its eight scrapping centers.
