Key highlights
- Delhi Traffic Police relaunches Traffic Prahari app to crowdsource traffic enforcement
- Citizens can report violations and earn monthly cash rewards up to INR 50,000
- Over 1,400 challans issued daily through verified public submissions
Delhi Traffic Police has officially relaunched the Traffic Prahari app, turning everyday citizens into digital traffic enforcers. The app allows users to report violations like helmetless riding, red-light jumping, wrong-side driving, and illegal parking—and get rewarded for it. Yes, you read that right. You can now earn up to INR 50,000 a month just by helping clean up Delhi’s chaotic roads.
The app, available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store, requires users to register with their mobile number and OTP. Once logged in, users can upload photos or videos of traffic violations, complete with timestamp, GPS location, and vehicle registration details. A verification team at Todapur HQ reviews each submission to ensure it’s legit and not driven by personal vendettas.
How the reward system works
Every month, the top four contributors receive cash prizes:
- INR 50,000 for the highest number of valid reports
- INR 25,000 for second place
- INR 15,000 for third
- INR 10,000 for fourth place
This isn’t just a gimmick. According to DCP Traffic SK Singh, the app is already generating 1,400–1,500 challans daily, and some users have even formed WhatsApp groups to coordinate zone-wise reporting.
What you can report
The app accepts reports for a wide range of violations, including:
- Helmetless riding
- Red-light jumping
- Driving on the wrong side
- Road rage and aggressive driving
- Unsafe overtaking
- Defective number plates
- Illegal parking on sidewalks3
Users can also track the status of their reports within the app, adding transparency to the process.
Our thoughts
The Traffic Prahari app is a bold move, it empowers citizens, adds accountability, and offers a side hustle for those with a sharp eye and a smartphone. Sure, there’s potential for misuse, but the verification process seems tight.
