Ferrari Revives Testarossa Nameplate: 1050hp Hybrid Monster Is Born

Key highlights

  • Ferrari brings back the iconic Testarossa name for its new SF90 successor, the 849 Testarossa.
  • Powered by a reworked 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 hybrid producing 1050hp and 842Nm.
  • 0–100 km/h in under 2.3 seconds, top speed over 330 km/h, and up to 25 km of pure EV range.

Ferrari has officially revived the legendary Testarossa nameplate for its SF90 successor, now christened the 849 Testarossa. But don’t expect a retro throwback. This isn’t a tribute, it’s a reinvention. The new Testarossa ditches the 1980s flat-12 for a reworked plug-in hybrid V8 that makes it the most powerful production Ferrari ever built.

Unveiled in both Berlinetta and Spider forms, the 849 Testarossa sits between the 296 GTB and the limited-run F80 hypercar. It’s Ferrari’s new flagship for buyers who want brutal performance wrapped in Italian drama.

Powertrain: numbers that punch

At the heart of the 849 Testarossa is a heavily revised 3990cc twin-turbo V8 paired with three electric motors. The specs are wild:

  • V8 output: 830hp and 842Nm
  • Electric motors: 220hp combined
  • Total system output: 1050hp
  • 0–100 km/h: under 2.3 seconds
  • Top speed: 330+ km/h
  • EV-only range: 25 km via 7.5kWh battery

Ferrari has reworked nearly every component including turbochargers, cylinder heads, intake plenums, valvetrain, fuel rails, and even the crankshaft. The result is a redline bumped to 8300 rpm and a soundtrack that’s been tuned to deliver proper Ferrari drama.

Chassis and tech

Despite the added tech, the dry weight remains at 1570kg which is the same as the SF90. Ferrari achieved this through weight-saving measures like recycled aluminium alloys for the cylinder head, crankcase, and sump, cutting COâ‚‚ emissions by up to 80 percent during manufacturing.

The car also features:

  • Revised cooling and brake regeneration systems
  • Ferrari Integrated Vehicle Estimator (FIVE) software for real-time dynamics control
  • All-wheel drive via dual front motors and a rear-mounted motor-generator
  • Assetto Fiorano pack (optional) for track-focused upgrades and 30kg weight reduction

It laps Fiorano in 1:17.5. That is 1.2 seconds quicker than the SF90.

Design: no cheese grater, all muscle

While the original Testarossa was famous for its side strakes and pop-up headlights, the 849 Testarossa skips the nostalgia. It’s sleek, modern, and aggressive. Expect sharp lines, aerodynamic sculpting, and a wide stance that screams performance without shouting retro.

Ferrari hasn’t revealed pricing yet, but expect it to comfortably exceed the SF90’s INR 4 crore+ tag. Deliveries are expected to begin globally in early 2026.
