A recently published online report has grabbed the attention of the Indian auto industry, as it shows that Suzuki Motor Company (SMC) is planning to start the production of flex fuel cars in this fiscal year.

As per the known details, the new flex fuel engines will be compatible with various blends, including 85% ethanol. The first model to be launched is the Wagon R Flex Fuel, which has been repeatedly displayed at various motor shows.

Furthermore, the company is in talks with multiple cooperatives to set up biogas plants to produce CNG. This will eventually generate more income among rural and agriculture-based industries, as well as increase CNG access for Maruti vehicles.

The brand is also developing a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. This is expected to feature in the future Maruti Arena and Nexa vehicles, including the Grand Vitara 7-seater.

Additionally, Maruti is planning to introduce PHEVs and EREVs in India by the end of this decade. Ahead of it, the brand plans to launch new series hybrid cars that will use the engine as a power generator, while the vehicle will run completely on electricity.

The first car with the series hybrid technology could be Fronx, which is expected to debut in 2027.
