Mini Cooper S gets a price cut ahead of GST 2.0 rollout

Key highlights

  • BMW India slashes prices of Mini Cooper S variants by INR 2.5–INR 3 lakh ahead of GST 2.0 implementation.
  • New ex-showroom prices start at INR 43.70 lakh for the Essential Pack.
  • Electric Mini models remain unaffected as EV tax slabs stay unchanged.

BMW India has announced a price cut across its Mini Cooper S lineup, even before the new GST 2.0 regime kicks in on September 22. The move comes as a surprise, with the brand passing on the benefits of the revised tax structure early, making the iconic British hatchback more accessible to enthusiasts who’ve been holding out.

The price drop ranges from INR 2.5 lakh to INR 3 lakh depending on the variant, with the biggest cut reserved for the Favoured and JCW packs. The Essential Pack now starts at INR 43.70 lakh, down from INR 46.20 lakh.

Variant-wise price breakdown

Here’s how the new pricing stacks up:

Variant

Old Price (INR )

New Price (INR )

Discount (INR )

Essential Pack

46,20,000

43,70,000

2,50,000

Classic Pack

51,95,000

49,20,000

2,75,000

Favoured Pack

52,00,000

3,00,000

JCW Pack

57,50,000

54,50,000

3,00,000

These prices are ex-showroom and reflect the revised GST slab of 18% for petrol-powered sub-4m cars under 1200 cc. The Mini Cooper S, with its 2.0L turbocharged engine, technically sits outside that bracket, but BMW has opted to absorb the difference and offer early relief.

What’s staying the same

The Mini Cooper S continues to offer:

  • 2.0L TwinPower Turbo petrol engine
  • 192 hp and 280 Nm of torque
  • 0–100 km/h in 6.7 seconds
  • 7-speed dual-clutch transmission
  • LED headlamps, 8.8-inch touchscreen, Harman Kardon audio

The electric Mini Countryman EV, however, sees no price change. It remains at INR 54.90 lakh as EVs are still taxed under the older structure.

Why this matters

GST 2.0 is expected to simplify auto taxation by reducing rates on small cars, hybrids, and two-wheelers. While the full rollout is scheduled for later this month, BMW’s decision to preemptively cut prices signals confidence in demand and a push to boost festive season sales.
