Ducati will not make small bikes, but why?

In a recent media interaction, Ducati’s communication head revealed that the Italian brand has no plans to enter the small capacity market, which its rivals have entered and are earning good margins.

As per the brand, it has a strong connection with its Italian roots, which it will have to leave if it deviates towards a low capacity market and smaller products. Furthermore, the brand’s main focus is to make sophisticated, premium, and performance-rich bikes; categories none of which can be fulfilled by a small capacity bike within a reasonable price bracket.

Meanwhile, the Italian brand is committed to make mid-capacity bikes like the 689 Mono and the Scrambler range, which is designed specifically to attract young buyers. The brand also uses these bikes in Motocross, which is an essential part of its identity.

All in all, the brand is solid confirmed that it is not attracted by the huge mass market margins, which Triumph’s 400cc platform, or BSA Bantam-like bikes are earning internationally. Rather, the focus is to remain exclusive and premium in the international market.
