Mercedes dropped a bomb this Tuesday in the form of a new concept model reveal. The Vision Iconic concept car was showcased at the company’s design studio in China.

The Vision Iconic concept features a unique retro design that is inspired by the 1900 Mercedes 35 PS and the 1956 300SC models. The long bonnet, coupe rooftop, and a ducktail rear-end all converge into a modern yet old premium car.

Another interesting fact is that it has the design bits that will feature on the next-gen S-Class, which is scheduled to debut in 2028. For example, it gets the five-slat illuminated grille that is over the bonnet and is complemented by the tri-star LED headlights.

Moreover, it gets 7-spoke aero alloy wheels, curved fenders with aero outlets, and a rear design inspired by the 1954 300 SL. Although the rear does not feature an illuminated logo.

On the inside, it feels more like a lounge as it gets premium deep blue velvet bench seats on the front row. Additionally, the dashboard features an old-school design, finished in brushed aluminium, with a glass-like centre console called ‘Zeppelin’. The four-spoke steering wheel also looks taken over from the early 1930s cars.

However, it also features modern technology, including the nanoparticle-based paint that is designed to power the EV models. This paint can absorb sunlight and power the Vision Iconic concept for over 12,000 kms annually. Moreover, it can be re-coated and painted in any choice of colours.

Other modern features include the Level 4 ADAS, which is currently under development. Mercedes claims that the production car will be able to drive itself and park, even if the driver fells asleep. Additionally, it gets the steering-by-wire tech, which eliminates any hydraulic or physical connection between the steering wheel and the tyres.
