Blue Energy Motors launches electric Heavy-Duty Truck with battery swapping tech

Key highlights

  • India’s first electric heavy-duty truck with battery swapping launched by Blue Energy Motors
  • Mumbai–Pune becomes the country’s first electric freight corridor
  • Truck offers unlimited range, highest payload, and lowest cost of ownership in its class

Blue Energy Motors (BEM) has officially launched India’s first electric heavy-duty truck with battery swapping technology, and it’s a big moment for commercial transport. Unveiled at BEM’s Chakan facility in Pune, the truck was introduced by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also inaugurated the Mumbai–Pune electric corridor, India’s first highway designed for electric freight movement.

Built for India, engineered for efficiency

The new electric truck is designed specifically for Indian conditions. It offers unlimited range thanks to battery swapping, which eliminates long charging breaks. The payload capacity is the highest in its category, and the Advanced Mobility Intelligence system ensures fleet reliability and real-time diagnostics.

The truck is part of BEM’s Energy-as-a-Service model, which reduces upfront costs and delivers the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) in the segment. That’s a big win for fleet operators who’ve been waiting for an EV that makes financial sense.

Infrastructure that matches ambition

The Mumbai–Pune corridor is just the beginning. BEM plans to electrify major national highways over the next three years. The company has already signed MoUs for over 10,000 electric trucks, and a new facility with a 30,000-unit capacity is in the works, backed by an INR 3,500 crore investment.

Our thoughts

This truck is the kind of innovation that makes you want to high-five a logistics manager. Battery swapping is a game-changer, especially in a country where time is money and traffic is a lifestyle.

We just hope that the infrastructure is efficient and does all that it claims to do. Also, we would have to watch how these heavy duty trucks perform in real life conditions to see the viability of such products.
