What to expect from the BMW i5 LWB?
As reported online, the new i5 LWB electric sedan shall make its Indian debut in January 2026. While the exact launch date is yet to be confirmed by the brand, what is known is that it will be positioned above the petrol-powered 530Li variant and below the M60 variant.
Therefore, the electric 5 Series could become an alternative to the absence of the diesel engine option in the sedan. Meanwhile, its direct rival, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, is sold with the diesel engine option, and it generates healthy sales figures as well.
The i5 LWB will be made at the Chennai-based facility, which will also be used to manufacture the iX1. However, the Indian-spec car will be similar to the Chinese-spec i5, and it will be based on the eDrive40L variant.
It is equipped with a 97kWh battery pack and offers 335 bhp and 430 Nm of power and torque. In China, this variant offers a claimed range of 713 km, and we expect this figure not to be changed for India as well.
However, the Indian-spec model will likely get more ground clearance and a tweaked suspension setup to tackle the bad road infrastructure of India. As far as the pricing is concerned, we suspect it to be positioned around Rs 1 crore.
