Toyota GR GT: Everything you need to know
The new GR GT looks similar to the pre-production prototype that we saw multiple times getting tested on the track and on the road. It is based on an all-aluminium frame and uses forged carbon fibre parts on the exterior extensively to make it lightweight and well-balanced for the driver.
In terms of the design, the GR GT features an aggressive, low-slung look with a long bonnet and a ducktail rear shape. The front is dominated by the sharp LED lights and a sporty bumper with big aero dams and a splitter. Meanwhile, the side profile gets the 20-inch alloy wheels draped in the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 Cup tyres. The rear-end gets a full-width LED light with an integrated splitter in the bumper.
Since this is still a car under development, Toyota claims that its new frame and carbon fibre panels will make it below the current 1,750 kg. Additionally, the car is powered by an all-new 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 engine and a hybrid technology that uses twin electric motors.
While the brand is yet to reveal the exact details because the car is under development, the current power figures stand at 641 bhp and 850 Nm, which are set to be increased. Meanwhile, Toyota has developed a new 8-speed transaxle automatic transmission that eliminates the lag between shifts and offers a linear, yet powerful performance. The GR GT strictly remains a RWD car, which is going to make it even more fun to drive. The braking duties are covered by the Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes. Toyota claims that the final production car will hit 320 kph easily in its stock form.
On the inside, the GR GT gets a cabin layout inspired by the Lexus LC500. There is extensive use of red leather with the new D-cut steering wheel, race seats, and a big centre console, which probably hides the RWD drivetrain underneath. In terms of tech, it gets a new digital console, a new infotainment screen, improved UI, more wireless features, aircraft-type buttons for traction, power, and other controls, and Alcantara leather highlights on the steering wheel, dashboard, and seat.
Toyota has also unveiled the GR GT3 race car, which is based on the same platform but uses more lightweight parts, more power, and improved performance as per the GT3 cup championship requirements. Its main rival is the Mercedes-AMG GT, which will get tough competition in 2027 when the final car will be introduced by Toyota.
Speaking of the GR GT, it will go on sale in the global market in 2027. However, it is highly unlikely that it will ever get launched in India.
