Skoda Kylaq CNG launch possible soon – Here’s why
In a recent media interaction, Martin Jahn, Skoda Auto’s board memeber of sales and marketing, revealed that the brand is working towards more efficient and cleaner technologies. The upcoming CAFE III emission norms have pushed the brand to consider new powertrains for the Kylaq, which include a CNG option.
As per him, Skoda is likely to introduce the CNG option as a factory-fitment. The evaluation of a CNG powertrain for the Kylaq is underway, and more details are likely to be revealed in the future. Additionally, Skoda is expected to introduce the CNG option in the Kushaq and Slavia models as well, only if the market demands.
While the brand’s official did not reveal any further details, we believe it will be interesting to see a CNG Skoda car in India. The Kylaq has turned out to be a game-changer for Skoda in India, as nearly half of the brand’s sales come from it. Introducing a CNG option will further expand the portfolio of Kylaq in a category that is ruled by Maruti Suzuki.
Mind you, the current Kylaq is available with a single engine option, which is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol, offering 113 bhp and 178 Nm. It is paired with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
