What to expect from the Nissan Tekton?

It looks like Nissan’s India branch is avoiding any sort of hurry in introducing its new models. First, the brand delayed the launch of the Gravite MPV, which is a rebadged Renault Triber, to February 17, and now the Nissan Tekton SUV looks delayed as well.

We are quoting this as the brand was supposed to reveal the India-spec Tekton on February 4, which did not happen. Instead, a test mule of what we think is a top-spec model was seen on the streets of Bengaluru in full camouflage. The Tekton is going to be a rebadged new-gen Renault Duster, but it will offer a different design, rebranded interiors, and different trims.

The exterior design of the Tekton is likely to be more streamlined, with modern features like the connected LED lights with inverted L-shaped DRLs, and an illuminated logo. Moreover, it will take its inspiration from the Nissan Patrol flagship SUV. The spy shots show the new 18-inch rims with 255-section tyres, while the roof rails are functional ones.

On the inside, it is likely to offer the same layout of the cabin as the new Renault Duster. Expect the 10-inch infotainment and digital cluster to be retained. The only differentiating change will be the rebranded steering wheel, door sill logos, and seat fabric design. The rest of the cabin will be the same on both cars.

Powering the Tekton will be the same three engine options as the Duster. The base variants are likely to get a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with a 6MT gearbox, while the mid-spec and top-spec variants will get a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine with 6MT and 6DCT gearbox. Nissan is expected to launch a Hybrid Tekton with 1.8-litre engine in the later stage.

With that said, the launch timeline of the Tekton currently remains unknown as the brand has not spoken about the details regarding it. We are expecting its India launch will take place by the end of this year, and it will be priced a few thousand above than the Renault Duster.
