2026 Nissan Tekton base variant details

The new Tekton SUV will be essentially a badge-engineered version of the new-gen Renault Duster. While Renault is ahead on the debut schedule with the new Duster’s pricing to be unveiled on March 17, Nissan is taking its sweet time for development and testing.

The Japanese brand had earlier targeted to launch the Tekton in the first quarter of 2026. However, due to internal issues, the debut got pushed towards the end of this year. Meanwhile, the latest spotting of a test mule comes from Pune, where the base variant was seen near ARAI, hinting at possible homologation testing.

Speaking of the changes, it gets a more streamlined design language, which is inspired by the bigger Nissan SUVs like the new Nissan Patrol. Unlike Duster, it will feature connected LED headlights, an illuminated Nissan logo, and a mature design rather than rugged.

The base variant seen here gets plenty of equipment like the LED taillights, roof-integrated spoiler, and conventional door handles. Sadly, the spy images do not disclose the front design or any interior details. We suspect that the base variant will come loaded with the essential features like an auto AC, a touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, charging ports, and rear AC vents.

Powering the Tekton will be the same engine options as the Duster. The base variant and mid-spec variants will get the Nissan Magnite-sourced 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with a 6-speed MT or a CVT gearbox.

Meanwhile, the mid-spec and top-spec variants will get the 1.3-litre Daimler-sourced turbo petrol engine with a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed DCT gearbox. This engine is likely to become more popular as it makes 160 bhp and 280 Nm.

Online rumours hint that Nissan will unveil the production-spec Tekton before Diwali 2026, while the price list will be announced by the end of this year.
