The latest spy shots of the Meridian three-row SUV test mule have surfaced online, revealing that it will soon get a diesel hybrid engine. Read below what to expect from this new hybrid engine and whether it will be launched in India or not.

Jeep Meridian to get diesel hybrid engine – Details
A test mule of the upcoming Jeep Commander, aka Meridian in India, was spied in the international market recently. While the test mule did not feature any design changes, the biggest update is cited to be under the bonnet.
As per the source, the car seen here is testing the upcoming T270 Hybrid engine. The upcoming hybrid technology will be paired to the Stellantis-sourced 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine, but it will use a 48V mild-hybrid or MHEV tech.
A 0.9 kWh battery pack will assist the powertrain with 24 bhp and 55 Nm, and this electric motor will operate in two modes: economy and performance. Moreover, Jeep will not use an E-DCT automatic, rather it has switched to the reliable 6-speed Aisin-sourced torque converter automatic transmission.
With that said, the new diesel hybrid engine will offer an increased output of up to 214 bhp and 505 Nm, which will position it strongly against the Toyota Fortuner Hybrid in the global market. Additionally, this engine will be offered on three variants globally: Longitude, Limited, and Overland.
Jeep is also likely to offers its trademark 4X4 Select AWD system with the hybrid engine in the global market. As far as the Indian market is concerned, the Meridian was recently updated with new features, and it is highly unlikely that this engine will come to India.
