Ashok Leyland launches twin fuel Dost and Dost+ XL

Key highlights

  • Ashok Leyland introduces twin fuel variants of Dost and Dost+ XL
  • Can run on both CNG and petrol, offering improved range and flexibility
  • Prices start at Rs 8.20 lakh for Dost and Rs 8.75 lakh for Dost+ XL

Ashok Leyland has expanded its light commercial vehicle lineup with the launch of twin fuel variants of the Ashok Leyland Dost and Ashok Leyland Dost+ XL. The new versions aim to tackle one of the biggest real-world problems for CNG users range anxiety.

Dual fuel

The headline feature here is the twin fuel setup. These vehicles can run on CNG for lower running costs and switch to petrol when needed. This is not just a convenience feature. It directly addresses downtime and route limitations, especially in areas where CNG infrastructure is still patchy.

For operators, that means fewer headaches and more kilometres covered without planning every fuel stop like a military operation.

DOST XL

Built for business

The Dost twin fuel variant offers a payload capacity of 1,218 kg. It gets a 120-litre CNG tank along with a 5-litre petrol tank. The claimed driving range stands at around 400 km.

Step up to the Dost+ XL, and things get more serious. It offers a segment-leading payload of 1,410 kg. The CNG tank capacity increases to 148 litres, while the petrol tank remains at 5 litres. The claimed range goes up to 500 km.

That is a meaningful bump for fleet operators. More range means more trips. More trips mean more revenue.

Designed for urban and semi-urban duty

Ashok Leyland is clearly targeting last-mile delivery operators, small businesses, and logistics players with this move. The ability to switch fuels on the go makes these vehicles particularly useful in mixed driving environments.  Lower emissions in CNG mode also help businesses align with tightening environmental norms without sacrificing usability.

Pricing and positioning

The twin fuel Dost is priced from Rs 8.20 lakh, while the Dost+ XL starts at Rs 8.75 lakh, both ex-showroom. That pricing keeps them competitive while adding a layer of flexibility that most rivals still do not offer in this segment.
