JSW MG Motor India joins the list of manufacturers that have hiked prices this month. However, the price increase is only limited to the premium MG Select EVs. Both offerings, the MG M9 and the MG Cyberster have received a significant bump in their pricing.
MG M9
Let’s start with the M9, because this one stings the most. The all-electric luxury MPV now costs Rs 75.90 lakh That is a straight jump of around Rs 5 lakh. No new features. No mechanical changes. Just a revised price tag.
The M9 still sits as one of the most unique offerings in the market. A full-size electric MPV with serious luxury intent. It packs a 90 kWh battery and offers over 500 km of range in ideal conditions.
MG Cyberster
The Cyberster, MG’s electric roadster, also sees a revision. While exact variant-wise changes vary, it now firmly sits around the Rs 75 lakh mark and above depending on configuration.
You get a 77kWh battery, dual motors, and performance that can embarrass a lot of traditional sports cars. The 0-100 kmph sprint comes in just over 3 seconds. It looks wild. It feels special.
What’s driving the price hike?
MG hasn’t shouted about the reasons, but it is not hard to connect the dots. Input costs, currency fluctuations, and the premium positioning of these EVs all play a role. Both models are sold through MGs premium dealership chain – MG Select. The offerings are not driving numbers for MG but are niche products in their respective segments. The price hike might not make a dent in their sales numbers as both the MG M9 and the Cyberster are quite unique.
