MG Windsor Commute enters fleet space at Rs 13.49 lakh

Key highlights

  • MG Motor India launches Windsor Commute for fleet buyers at Rs 13.49 lakh
  • Positioned as a purpose-built urban people mover with EV efficiency
  • Focuses on lower running costs and simplified ownership for operators

MG Motor India has entered the commercial EV space with the launch of the Windsor Commute. Priced at Rs 13.49 lakh, this version targets fleet and taxi operators, not private buyers.

What it gets and misses

The Windsor Commute focuses on essential features. On the outside, not much has changed. You still get LED projector headlamps, turn indicators on the ORVMs, and those neat flush door handles. But MG has swapped the alloys for 17-inch steel wheels, and yes, they come without covers. Function over form, clearly.

Step inside, and the cabin keeps things simple. It gets a black theme with subtle gold highlights on some trims. The seats use fabric upholstery, which makes sense for fleet duty. The 7-inch LCD instrument cluster comes from the Excite variant, but the big 10.1-inch touchscreen is gone. In its place is a basic infotainment unit with USB, FM, and Bluetooth.

The feature list covers the basics well. You get manual AC, electrically adjustable ORVMs, cruise control, a tilt and telescopic steering wheel, power windows, and USB charging options. That includes one Type-C and one Type-A at the front, plus a Type-C for the rear. Rear passengers also get reclining seats, which is a nice touch for long city runs.

On the safety side, it ticks the important boxes. There are four disc brakes, two airbags, hill hold assist, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and three-point seatbelts for all occupants.

Battery pack

The Windsor Commute is powered by a 38 kWh battery pack which is same as the Excite variant. The ARAI-certified range is 332 km with real world efficiency coming to about 260 km on a single charge. It takes approx. 40 minutes for the Windsor to go from 20% to 80% using a 45 kW (DC) charger. While a 0% to 100% charge with a 7.4 kW (AC) charger takes about 7 to 8 hours.

Positioning is spot on

The Rs 13.49 lakh price tag feels aggressive. MG clearly wants to get ahead in the fleet EV space before it gets crowded. Operational costs for an EV are low too as compared to ICE powered cars.

Brands like Tata Motors already dominate commercial EVs. MG is here to get a piece of this pie. By carving out a dedicated fleet product, it also avoids diluting its private buyer appeal while still chasing volume.
