New Suzuki Jimny incoming, is it an EV?

Suzuki Jimny EV

Jimny is one of Suzuki’s oldest nameplates around the globe. The nimble and capable off-roader is loved internationally for its lightweight performance on the off-road trails.

However, the latest spy shots of two test cars have been taken during their snow testing phase. Interestingly, the completely camouflaged test cars were equipped with a completely new front, which deviates from its old-school design philosophy as seen on the ICE Jimny.

While there are no reports of Suzuki testing an electric powertrain for the Jimny, it could be an EV. The reason behind this theory is its new fascia that features a closed grille and the sleek DRLs.

The rugged bumper and the foglights continue with slight changes. Additionally, the new alloy wheels appear to have an aerodynamic design for a better range.

Other visible highlights include the leaf-spring suspension at the front, a 360-degree camera, and an ADAS radar module mounted behind the IRVM. While an electric Jimny could be an interesting product for some, we believe that the weight of the batteries will reduce its off-road capabilities, the latter of which is known as its strongest point worldwide.

With that said, the two test cars do have the same bodywork and greenhouse as the petrol Jimny. The side profile does not have a lot of changes. However, the rear was not spotted in these photos, and we believe that the upcoming Jimny could also use a set of new taillights.

More details regarding this new Jimny iteration are likely to surface in the coming months.
