Will the Nissan Terrano PHEV launch in India?
During a recent media interaction, Thierry Sabbagh, President of Nissan Middle East, KSA, CIS, and India, revealed that the brand is planning to launch new models, which could possibly include the Dongfeng partnered models. The latter is likely to include the upcoming Terrano PHEV, which was recently unveiled in a concept avatar in China.
The Terrano plug-in hybrid is a ladder-frame SUV (expectedly), and it is based on the Nissan Frontier Pro/Dongfeng Z9 pickup trucks. The concept version of the upcoming Terrano was revealed at the Beijing Auto Show 2026, which showcased its conventional SUV styling, massive size, and off-road capabilities.
While Sabbagh did not reveal whether the Terrano PHEV will be launched in India or not, we suspect that it is highly possible. The latter follows the fact that Nissan will soon launch two models, the Tekton SUV (Renault Duster’s rebadged version), and a three-row SUV based on the Tekton.
The Terrano is likely to share its engines with the Frontier Pro pickup truck, which is offered with ICE and plug-in hybrid powertrains in China and other markets. The source hints that the PHEV makes more sense for the Indian market, and it is likely to be launched in India.
As far as the market positioning is concerned, we believe that the Terrano PHEV could be placed against the Toyota Fortuner and the MG Majestor in India. However, there is still unsurity regarding its exact launch timeline.
