What to expect from the JSW-Chery iCar V23?
The Chery iCar V23 is a mid-size electric SUV that is popular in certain markets, including China and South Asia. JSW Motors is expected to bring its BEV or fully electric iteration in India later this year. Hence, the road testing is being conducted extensively right now, during which the test car seen here was spotted.
Since the iCar V23 is a global product, we know what it will look like. Measuring 4.2 metres in length, the V23 EV boasts a boxy, conventional SUV styling with neo-retro elements like the oval LED headlamps, flared wheel arches, a tailgate-mounted spare tyre, and big alloy wheels.
The Indian-spec model is likely to get light cosmetic updates, mostly limited to the rebranding of the badges. On the inside, the V23 packs a luxurious and modern cabin. It gets features like a 15.4-inch HD infotainment screen, an HUD, an ADAS safety package, wireless charging, ambient lights, electric front seats with ventilation, a dual-pane sunroof, and more.
While the international markets get BEV and PHEV powertrains for the V23, the Indian market is likely to get the electric/BEV version only. The V23 is offered with two battery packs globally, as follows:
- 59.93 kWh LFP: 134 bhp and 180 Nm, RWD, 360 km range (NEDC)
- 81.76 kWh NMC: 208.1 bhp and 292 Nm, AWD (dual-motor), 430 km (NEDC)
JSW Motors is unlikely to manufacture the cars initially. However, it is setting up a facility in India, which is expected to be used to locally assemble the Chery cars like the iCar V23 and the Jetour T2 PHEV. The localisation is expected to take place in a later stage.
Meanwhile, JSW Motors will set up experience centres beforehand entering the car market in India. The purpose of these centres will be to educate buyers about the brand and its technology.
