Hyundai Bayon-based SUV: What do we know so far?

The upcoming Hyundai SUV seen here in the spy shots is a new mid-size model. It is based on the Bayon, which is a popular crossover in the global market. However, Hyundai will spice it up for the Indian customers with an aggressive design and a feature-loaded cabin.

A close look at the clear spy shots shows the new, sharp L-shaped daytime running lights. These look identical to an extent with the current Venue. Meanwhile, the front fascia is completely covered, but we can see the sculpted bonnet, which is set to give it a fluent outlook, along with the horizontal grille.

The side profile is largely similar to the Bayon, especially the rear glass design and the retractable door handles. But the new dual-tone alloy wheels are completely new. Even the mirrors are not carried from any other model, and these do look wide.

The test car has been smartly covered to hide the critical design details. What we can see are the functional black-coloured roof rails and an upright rear stance, which give it a proper urban SUV look. We expect it to get a set of connecting LED lights at the rear, and the modern design philosophy will follow it till the rear bumper.

Not long ago, an international digital media agency released its interior spy shots. The rear bench of the car was unveiled, and it did look spacious for three passengers. We do believe that it will offer a completely new cabin, something that we have not seen on any other Hyundai model yet. Moreover, Hyundai’s latest Pleos Connect infotainment system could also debut on this unnamed SUV.

Lastly, there are rumours that it will debut a new 1.2-litre TGDI turbo petrol engine. Its power output is unknown yet, but we can expect the max power to range around 120-130 bhp. We are not sure whether it will be a brand new block or a big block 1.0 TGDI motor. But this engine will certainly be offered on the top variants only. The lower-spec models are likely to get the 1.2 NA petrol engine, which is used on the Venue and i20.

Speaking of the launch timeline, reports suggest that it will be revealed by September-October 2026. Hyundai is expected to place it somewhere between Venue and i20.
