Exterior details
The new Hilux is based on the same IMV platform as before, but it now features a major styling revamp. The exterior design of the new model is inspired by the new Land Cruiser Prado and the new RAV4 Hybrid to an extent.
The front fascia now features a more upright and edgy design with sleek LED headlamps and a new front grille that is integrated into the new bumper; the bumper also gets a major redesign with vertical housings on the sides, a new lower grille with a bash plate, and LED foglights integrated into the lower part.
The side profile of the new Hilux looks a bit identical to the outgoing version. The differentiating elements on the side include the flared wheel arches, a redesigned loading bay, and the new R17 wheels. Toyota has downsized the wheel size by 1 inch to increase ride comfort and off-road quotient.
At the rear, it gets a new tailgate with Toyota lettering on it, new LED vertical taillights, and a footstep to enter the loading bay. Customers can choose from Super White, Platinum Pearl White, Attitude Black+, Emotional Red, Ash, and new Sulphur Metallic+ exterior colour options.2026 Skoda Slavia facelift to launch on August 18
Interior details and features
The cabin design of the new Hilux has also undergone a massive update. The new dashboard features a big 12.3-inch floating infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Toyota i-Connect features, etc. Meanwhile, the new 7-inch digital driver console offers a new driving experience along with a new three-spoke steering wheel that has been carried over from the new Land Cruiser Prado 250. Other notable feature upgrades include a wireless charging pad, soft-touch leather highlights on the door pads and dashboard, Smart Entry, Start/Stop, rear armrest, and PM 2.5 air filtration.
Toyota has also redesigned the seats, door panels, storage spaces, and the overall cabin to ensure that the new model offers more space and comfort. However, there are still a few misses like the automatic climate control, electric sunroof, auto-dimming IRVM, reclining rear seats, etc. These features are not even offered as an option, which will surely not be liked by the new customers.
Meanwhile, it now comes with improved safety features, including a 360-degree camera, parking sensors, seven airbags, TPMS, and more. The Indian-spec Hilux does not get an ADAS suite, while the global model gets it.
2026 Toyota Hilux: Engine specs
Powering the new 2026 Hilux is the same 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine as before. It generates 204 PS of peak power and 500 Nm of peak torque. The new Hilux comes paired with an AISIN-sourced 6-speed AT gearbox only. There is no option for a manual gearbox on the new model, which will be a big miss for enthusiasts.
Interestingly, the new Hilux is the first Hilux model out of its nine generations to offer a 4X2 drivetrain. The lower-spec entry-level GX variant gets an automatic gearbox but not a 4X4 drivetrain. We believe that Toyota has done it purposefully after assessing the market trend in India, especially after seeing how customers opt for the 4X2 variants of the big SUVs like the Fortuner, etc.
Speaking of its 4X4 drivetrain, the new Hilux gets an electronically locking differential, a button-operated 4X4 system with Toyota’s improved H4 and L4 drive ratios, Downhill Assist Control, and Drive Modes (Eco, Normal, and Sport).
