Kia Carens and Carens Clavis CNG launched from Rs 12.11 lakh

Key highlights

  • Factory-fitted CNG variants start at Rs 12.11 lakh
  • Both models use a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox
  • A 60-litre CNG tank is offered while retaining a spare wheel

Kia India has expanded its powertrain portfolio with the launch of factory-fitted CNG versions of the Carens and Carens Clavis. Prices start at Rs 12.11 lakh for the Carens CNG and Rs 12.39 lakh for the Carens Clavis CNG, both ex-showroom.

What does the new Carens and Carens Clavis CNG get

The CNG variants are based on the Smartstream G1.5 petrol engine and are offered exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox. In CNG mode, the engine produces 96PS and 123Nm. The system uses a 60-litre CNG tank installed alongside the existing petrol fuel system, giving the MPVs a dual-fuel setup.

One of the practical aspects of the installation is that Kia has managed to retain the spare wheel despite fitting the CNG system. The CNG variants also receive modified suspension and CNG-specific engine calibration.

New features

Kia has also added a few CNG-specific features. These include a CNG fuel-change switch and a 4.2-inch colour TFT MID with CNG Distance to Empty logic. The models also get larger 16-inch front disc brakes and R16 wheels. A modified third-row seat-back frame provides a revised recline angle for additional passenger comfort.

The Carens CNG is available in a single Premium (O) variant, while the Carens Clavis CNG is offered in two variants. This gives Kia an additional powertrain option in its three-row MPV range without moving to an aftermarket CNG installation.

The addition of CNG also broadens Kia’s current powertrain strategy, which now includes ICE, CNG, hybrid and electric options across its portfolio.
