Maruti Suzuki has finally introduced the much-awaited CNG AMT powertrain on the new Baleno facelift. The new powertrain is based on the 1.2-litre Z-series CNG engine that also powers the Swift and Dzire models.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno CNG AMT: Everything to know
The new Baleno CNG AMT is now available at Rs 8.32 lakh (ex-showroom). It is the first-ever CNG AMT powertrain on offer by Maruti Suzuki. The new CNG AMT variants are based on the 69 bhp and 101.8 Nm 1.2-litre three-cylinder CNG engine, which is essentially a factory-fitted CNG version of the Z-series engine.
The AMT transmission is a 5-speed unit that also offers a dedicated manual slot for manual gear shifts. Maruti has equipped the Baleno CNG AMT with a 55 kg CNG cylinder tank that has been mounted in the boot. Meanwhile, the car also gets a dedicated CNG-petrol switch and CNG-specific instrument console. Maruti claims that the Baleno CNG AMT can deliver up to 34.47 km/kg of efficiency, which positions it as one of the most efficient CNG cars in India.
With that said, the AMT gearbox option is only available on the Delta and Zeta variants of the Baleno. These variants are well equipped as compared to the base variants, offering features like alloy wheels, rear wiper and washer with defogger, projector headlights, central infotainment console, steering-mounted controls, six airbags, ISOFIX rear seats, three-point seat belts, etc.
Maruti has been missing the CNG AMT powertrain in its lineup, which was one of the key areas that led to the success of rival brands and models like the Tata Tiago. With the addition of the CNG AMT powertrain, the sales figures of the Baleno, Swift, and Dzire are bound to take a massive jump. We believe that the CNG AMT powertrain makes the best option for buyers with high annual usage, that too mostly in the city.
