Bentley has unveiled its first-ever electric vehicle in the global market. For the first time in 107 years of the brand’s history, Torcal will offer pure electric power to customers worldwide. Bentley has scheduled the Torcal EV for India by mid-2027, and it will be based on the Porsche Cayenne EV’s 800V PPE platform.
2027 Bentley Torcal: Battery specs, performance, range
First things first, the Bentley Torcal EV is based on the same PPE platform that is used by the Porsche Cayenne Electric. But that does not make both EVs the same, as Bentley has retuned the specifications and the platform as per its performance philosophy. Hence, it makes 888 bhp and 1,350 Nm of power and torque, which is less than the 1,100 bhp of the Porsche Cayenne EV.
The detuned specs do not mean that Bentley has compromised on performance. This 2.7-tonne SUV can sprint 0-100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds. Bentley says anything quicker than this is more “brutal”, as per its customers. Elegance is what Bentley has been known for, and the Torcal EV focuses on the same.
In terms of numbers, the Torcal EV is powered by a 113 kWh battery and a quad-electric motor setup that offers 600 km of WLTP range. It supports up to 400 kW of DC charging, which can add 160 km of range in just 7 minutes. 10-80 percent charging takes only 16 minutes, thus saving precious time, especially during long trips.
Bentley has used its most advanced chassis technology. It gets active suspension with anti-roll bars, 5-degree rear-wheel steering, optional carbon-ceramic brakes with 440mm rotors, and Level 2+ ADAS safety tech that can reverse the car automatically up to 50 metres and auto-park it within a designated range of 200 metres.
Exterior design
The Torcal EV is definitely one of Bentley’s finest designs yet. First, talking of its size, the Torcal EV is 120 mm shorter than the Bentayga, and 50 mm lower. Meanwhile, it gets a wheelbase of just over 3 metres and has an overall length of 5 metres, which translates into a well-balanced exterior design.
Bentley designers have tried to keep the overhangs shorter, and the signature ‘endless bonnet’ gives it the muscular appeal that Bentayga is known for. One of the most interesting bits is the clear polycarbonate panel that features diamond-like LED lights, acting as the front grille. This is completely unique, especially for a Bentley.
The overall design features seamless panels with fewer creases, and a tapering-off roofline that merges into a wide rear footprint. Bentley has packed the rear with the slimmest LED taillights that feature U-shaped motifs. The EV rides on 22-inch aerodynamic wheels, while the standard variant will feature 21-inch wheels. It also gets a 90-litre frunk and 460 litres of boot space. Sadly, there is no spare wheel or puncture repair kit on offer.
Interior
The cabin design of the Torcal EV has been kept luxurious and does not have unnecessary screens. It features all four powered doors that operate automatically when passengers buckle up. Meanwhile, the dashboard gets the signature three-spoke steering wheel, a curved OLED central display, a digital driver cockpit, and tonnes of futuristic technology like facial recognition for the driver’s seat that adjusts the controls, music, seat, and ADAS as per the driver.
Moreover, the Torcal EV features a rotary dial and physical control buttons on the central panel that also has touch controls for HVAC, drive modes, parking brake, seat ventilation, etc. There is also a ‘Bentley Mode’ that balances the NVH and cabin comfort along with the performance. It also gets ‘Dynamic Symphony’, which is essentially a studio-recorded orchestra by professionals that plays through the sound system and grows with the acceleration. Customers can also opt for a 28-speaker Naim sound system, which replaces the standard 16-speaker sound system.
India launch
Bentley has scheduled the launch of the Torcal EV in India by mid-2027. Since it will not get the benefit from the UK-India FTA deal, we believe that it will be priced north of Rs 4.5 crores.
