Mercedes-Benz India has launched the Mercedes-AMG G 63 Offroad PRO at Rs 3.80 crore, ex-showroom. Offered in limited numbers, the new variant adds dedicated off-road hardware and a more rugged appearance to the high-performance G-Class.
What’s new?
The Offroad PRO is based on the AMG G 63 and retains its familiar boxy silhouette, but gets several upgrades aimed at improving its capability away from paved roads. The most significant addition is the AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension, which combines active roll stabilisation with adaptive damping. Mercedes says the system can provide greater axle articulation when driving off-road while maintaining stability and comfort.
The suspension is complemented by two new off-road modes. AMG Active Balance Control allows the roll stiffness to be adjusted across three stages, while AMG Traction PRO individually controls braking torque at each wheel in the Rock and Sand drive programs. The latter can also be adjusted across seven levels depending on the terrain.
Performance
The AMG G 63 Offroad PRO is powered by a handcrafted 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 585 hp and 850 Nm. The 48V mild-hybrid system adds a further 15kW of electrical assistance through the integrated starter-generator. Mercedes claims a 0-100 kmph time of 4.4 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 240 kmph.
The new variant also gets a Professional roof luggage rack with continuous aluminium panels and a removable rear ladder. The setup is designed to carry larger luggage and expedition equipment while providing access to the roof-mounted load area.
Other kit
It rides on unique 20-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels finished in matte black, wrapped in 275/50 R20 tyres. The visual treatment is completed by the AMG-specific bumper, flared wheel arches and aggressive front-end design.
Inside, the G 63 Offroad PRO gets Nappa leather upholstery, configurable ambient lighting and the latest MBUX NTG7 infotainment system. The system includes 12.3-inch driver and multimedia displays, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, USB-C connectivity and augmented-reality navigation.
The redesigned off-road cockpit puts key information and functions within easier reach. The displays can show vehicle position, compass, altitude, steering angle, tyre pressure, temperature and differential-lock status. A Transparent Hood function is also available through the off-road menu.
Safety
Safety and driver assistance features include Active Brake Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and a 360-degree camera system. The SUV also gets the AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system and active hydraulic roll stabilisation.
Mercedes-Benz India will offer the AMG G 63 Offroad PRO in limited numbers, with the company positioning it specifically for customers looking for additional off-road capability and a more distinctive interpretation of the G 63.
