Ampere appears to be getting closer to entering India’s electric motorcycle segment. The company’s Xyber electric motorcycle concept has now been patented in India, suggesting that the production version could retain much of the futuristic design showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025.
The Xyber was Ampere’s first electric motorcycle concept and was shown as a relatively production-friendly machine rather than an outright design exercise. While the company has not announced a launch date yet, the patent filing is an indication that the project is moving forward.
Ampere Xyber design
The patent images suggest that Ampere has retained the Xyber’s distinctive styling. It gets a single-piece body panel extending from the front section towards the rear subframe, with muscular sections around the area where a conventional fuel tank would sit. The charging port is positioned on top of the motorcycle in roughly the location where the filler cap would traditionally be found.
The bike also gets a futuristic LED headlight, a small flyscreen and distinctive winglet-like elements around the front. The concept’s X-shaped LED tail-light, split-seat setup, split grab rails and single-piece handlebar are also expected to make the transition to the production motorcycle.
Battery and Range
Ampere had previously revealed some headline specifications for the Xyber. The electric motorcycle is expected to use a 10 kW motor, with power sent to the rear wheel through a chain drive. The company had claimed a top speed of around 100 kmph and a certified range of up to 200 km on a single charge when the concept was unveiled. It is also expected to use an LFP battery and support fast charging.
Premium hardware expected
The Xyber’s hardware is another area where Ampere appears to be aiming above its current electric scooter range. The concept featured USD front forks, a rear monoshock and disc brakes at both ends, along with chunky tyres. It also featured alloy wheels and ABS. Whether all these components make it to the final production motorcycle remains to be confirmed. The patent itself primarily provides an indication of the motorcycle’s design, rather than confirming its final mechanical specification.
Launch timeline
Ampere has not announced an official launch timeline for the Xyber yet. The company had described it as a concept when it was first showcased in 2025. The latest patent filing is therefore significant because the design appears to have progressed beyond a purely conceptual exercise.
