BMW has taken the wraps off the iX4, its electric coupe-SUV based on the new-generation iX3. The iX4 is the third model built on BMW’s Neue Klasse architecture and combines the technology of the iX3 with a more aggressively sloping roofline. Global market launch is scheduled for March 2027.
Three variants, dual-motor AWD
At launch, the iX4 will be offered in 40 xDrive and 50 xDrive forms, with the range-topping M60 xDrive following shortly afterwards. All versions use dual electric motors and all-wheel drive. The 40 xDrive produces 374 hp and 520 Nm, while the 50 xDrive develops 469 hp and 645 Nm. The M60 xDrive takes things further with 603 hp and 875 Nm. The 40 xDrive can sprint from 0-100kph in 5.6 seconds, while the 50 xDrive does the same in 4.9 seconds. The M60 cuts that to 3.9 seconds.
Range
The iX4 uses BMW’s 800V Neue Klasse architecture and gets the same battery options as the iX3. The 40 xDrive uses an 82.6 kWh battery, offering between 526 km and 638 km WLTP, depending on configuration. The 50 xDrive gets a larger 108.7 kWh battery and offers up to 828 km WLTP. The M60 is expected to use the same battery and has a claimed range of up to 777 km. DC charging is rated at up to 300 kW for the 40 xDrive and 400 kW for the 50 xDrive and M60. A 10-80 percent charge takes around 21 minutes for the 40 and 50 xDrive.
Coupe styling comes at a small practical cost
At 4,782 mm long, the iX4 is 40 mm shorter than the iX3. Its biggest visual difference is the sharply raked roofline, complemented by a bootlid spoiler, clear-lens tail-lamps and dedicated alloy designs.
The interior largely mirrors the iX3, including the 17.9-inch infotainment touchscreen and Panoramic Vision display. However, the coupe-style roof reduces rear headroom and boot capacity drops to 490 litres, 30 litres less than the iX3.
India launch remains unconfirmed
BMW has not yet announced an India launch timeline for the iX4. Given that the iX3 is already part of BMW’s India strategy, the coupe-SUV could eventually be considered for our market, but there is no official confirmation yet.
