Key highlights

  • Ducati has launched the Desmo450 MX Factory at Rs 21.26 lakh and the Desmo450 EDX at Rs 18.55 lakh (ex-showroom).
  • Both motorcycles use a 449.6cc Desmodromic single-cylinder engine producing 63.5 hp and 53.5 Nm.
  • Bookings are now open across Ducati dealerships in India.

Ducati has expanded its off-road motorcycle portfolio in India with the launch of two specialised machines: the Desmo450 MX Factory motocross bike and the Desmo450 EDX enduro motorcycle. While the MX Factory is designed for competitive motocross riding, the EDX is aimed at cross-country and enduro trails.

Both motorcycles are built around the same 449.6cc single-cylinder engine, featuring Ducati’s Desmodromic valve timing technology. This marks the brand’s entry into the dirt-bike segment in India, bringing its racing-derived engineering to a category that has traditionally had a limited presence in the premium motorcycle market.

Powertrain

The liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine develops 63.5 hp at 9,400 rpm and 53.5 Nm at 7,500rpm. Ducati says 70 per cent of the peak torque is available from 4,200 rpm, while the rev limiter is set at 11,900 rpm.

Both motorcycles get a twin-spar aluminium frame, fully adjustable Showa suspension and a new-generation electronics package. This includes closed-loop Ducati Traction Control, Launch Control, Engine Brake Control and a Ducati Quickshifter. Riders also get two power modes and two riding modes.

Desmo450 MX Factory

The Desmo450 MX Factory is the lighter and more competition-focused of the two. It weighs 104 kg without fuel and gets a 7.2-litre fuel tank. Its race-spec hardware includes a full titanium Akrapovic exhaust system with dedicated engine mapping, billet Factory triple clamps and a standard holeshot device.

Suspension comes from fully adjustable 49 mm Showa closed-cartridge forks with 310mm of travel and a rear monoshock offering 301 mm of wheel travel. Both ends get premium surface treatments. Braking is handled by Brembo hardware with 260 mm front and 240 mm rear Galfer discs. It rides on Pirelli Scorpion MX32 Mid-Soft tyres.

Desmo450 EDX

The Desmo450 EDX gets a few important changes to make it more suitable for longer off-road rides. It has a larger 8.5-litre fuel tank and weighs 107.1 kg without fuel. The suspension retains the 49mm Showa closed-cartridge fork and adjustable rear monoshock, but gets dedicated spring rates and valving for trail riding.

The EDX rides on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear Takasago Excel aluminium rims with Alpina spokes, wrapped in Pirelli Scorpion XC Mid-Soft tyres. It also gets handguards, a skid plate and a side stand as standard, making it better equipped for cross-country use straight out of the showroom. The motorcycle is available in Ducati Red.
