If you envied Maserati’s GT 2 race car, you now have a chance to buy its road-legal version in India. Although limited to a handful of 914 units globally, the new GT 2 Stradale is now available in India for Rs 5.2 crore (ex-showroom). It is based on the MC20’s powertrain, but offers significant changes for a ballistic performance upgrade.

Maserati GT 2 Stradale: What makes it special?

The new GT 2 Stradale is basically the MC20, but with major performance and hardware upgrades. The first upgrade has been made to its engine. While it continues to be powered by the MC20’s 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo engine, this powertrain now generates 640 bhp, which is 10 bhp more than the 630 bhp ‘Nutteno’ version on the MC20.

The spec sheet says that this engine makes 720 Nm, and it is paired to the 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox, sending power to the rear wheels. Meanwhile, with lightweight carbon fibre construction, the GT 2 Stradale tips 60 kg lighter than the MC20, which makes it substantially quicker than the MC20.

Maserati’s spec sheet says that it can do 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, and has a top speed of 324 bhp. Additionally, it gets four drive modes: Wet, GT, Sport, and Corsa. Meanwhile, customers can also opt for an additional package from two options: Performance Pack and Performance Pack Plus.

The Performance Pack adds Michelin semi-slick tyres, carbon-ceramic brakes, and an electronic limited-slip differential. Meanwhile, the Performance Pack Plus adds four-point seatbelts, a mounting bracket, and a fire extinguisher. Both packages come with the Corsa Evo mode, offering four levels of electronic driver assistance.

On the styling front, the GT 2 Stradale packs butterfly doors, a carbon fibre monocoque chassis, an aerodynamic package like the GT 2 race car, a redesigned front and rear bumper with carbon fibre highlights, large air intakes, and a big adjustable wing like the race car that can produce up to 500kg of downforce at 280 km/h. Additionally, it gets a lift system that can raise it by up to 35 mm to make it practical to an extent.

On the inside, the whole cabin is draped in carbon fibre materials and Alcantara leather upholstery with a race car-like theme. While the interior looks familiar to the MC20, the central tunnel has been redesigned. Meanwhile, it gets a carbon fibre steering wheel, carbon fibre seats with two size options, a 10.25-inch driver display, a central infotainment screen, ADAS, and a 100-litre boot space.
