Tata Motors’ next big bet in the EV space will be the electric Safari. The Safari EV has been under development for quite some time now. The latest online rumours are hinting that the Safari EV will break cover in January 2027, competing against the Mahindra XEV 9S.
Tata Safari EV: Everything we know so far about it
The upcoming Safari EV will be based on the latest Acti.ev+ platform. The same architecture is also used for the Harrier EV. Hence, we can safely say that it will most likely get the same battery options as the Harrier EV. These could include the 65 kWh and 75 kWh options. However, considering the bigger size and heavier weight, Tata could upgrade the 75 kWh to 80 kWh for more range and performance.
The spy shots of the previously spotted test cars have revealed that it will come with the QWD, which is Tata’s trademark for all-wheel-drive technology in its EVs. The QWD drivetrain will be introduced with the Harrier EV, and it is most likely to be offered on the range-topping Safari EV variants. Meanwhile, the rest of the range is likely to get rear-wheel-drive as standard.
Moving on, the styling of the electric Safari will be largely similar to the ICE version. The only major difference will be the fascia, which will get a blanked-off front bumper, new daytime running lights, an illuminated Tata logo, and a new front bumper with repositioned headlights.
The side and rear profiles will remain largely unaltered, save for the new aerodynamic alloy wheels, low rolling resistance tyres, and a streamlined rear bumper. Tata will top it off with the exclusive paint options, just like the other EVs.
On the inside, we expect the dashboard to get a massive triple-screen display carried over from the Sierra EV. A new steering wheel, new interior theme, improved ADAS safety package, and more comfort features like the reclining rear seats, seat massaging, etc., are likely to be offered.
Tata will likely announce the prices for the Safari EV in January 2027, while deliveries could take place by February 2027. We expect the Safari EV will be priced around Rs 25-35 lakh.
