On popular demand, Royal Enfield is all set to relaunch the original Himalayan with a bigger heart. The upcoming Himalayan 440 will be launched in India on September 4, 2026. Ahead of the official launch, a showroom-ready unit has been spotted at a dealership dispatch yard.
While the motorcycle seen here is covered to protect it from dust and scratches, it does show us the final details. By looking closely, we can safely say that it will retain its iconic design as seen last on the Himalayan 411. For example, the tail section uses a sleek LED taillight and halogen turn indicators. Meanwhile, the rear fender is painted white, giving away that this particular unit is a white-coloured model.
Further, the tubular handlebar has the old switchgear that was previously seen on the Himalayan 411 before it was discontinued. We believe this switchgear is being purposely used to keep the costs in check. Another interesting bit is its instrument console that is carried over from the Hunter 350. This semi-digital unit features an analogue speedometer with an LCD for MID and a Tripper navigation pod for turn-by-turn navigation support.
The large windscreen is also carried over from the OG Himalayan 411, which ensures that the design will remain the primary focus, as the brand will attract buyers who like relaxed touring with a punchy engine. Talking of the engine, it will be powered by the new 440cc single-cylinder air/oil-cooled motor. This engine is essentially a big-bore version of the 411cc engine of the Himalayan 411. It makes 25.4 bhp and 34 Nm on the Scram 440, and it is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.
With that said, the new Himalayan 440 will be officially launched in India on September 4. We believe that using the old cycle parts will help Royal Enfield position it below Rs 2.50 lakh, which is crucial because the bigger Himalayan 450 is priced above Rs 3 lakh, and the gap will ensure that Himalayan buyers do not get confused.
