Key highlights
- Stellantis will gain access to Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles’ technology and vehicle architecture for global product development.
- Vehicles developed under the agreement will be manufactured in India at the companies’ 50:50 Fiat India Automobiles joint venture.
- The partnership expands beyond manufacturing into technology and product collaboration, building on an MoU signed in February 2026.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Stellantis have signed a definitive agreement to expand their long-standing partnership into advanced automotive technology and product development. The collaboration aims to develop vehicles for more than 50 global markets, combining Tata Motors’ vehicle architecture and technology with Stellantis’ global engineering and product development capabilities.
Announced on October 12, 2026, the agreement builds on the memorandum of understanding signed by the two companies in February this year. It also strengthens India’s role as a development and manufacturing base for vehicles intended for international markets.
Under the new arrangement, Stellantis will use Tata Motors’ product technology and vehicle architecture, building on these capabilities through its engineering teams in India. The resulting vehicles will be manufactured at Fiat India Automobiles Private Limited (FIAPL), the 50:50 joint venture between the two companies.
Ranjangaon plant to handle production
Vehicles developed through the collaboration will be manufactured at FIAPL’s integrated facility in Ranjangaon, near Pune, Maharashtra. The plant already produces models from both companies, including the Tata Nexon, Altroz and Curvv, alongside Stellantis models such as the Jeep Compass and Meridian.
The expanded agreement builds on more than two decades of collaboration through FIAPL. The February 2026 MoU had outlined plans to explore cooperation across manufacturing, engineering and supply chains. The latest agreement formalises a more specific arrangement covering vehicle technology and architecture.
What does this mean for future cars?
The agreement does not yet identify specific models, launch timelines or the technologies that will be shared. While earlier industry reports had discussed the possibility of engine-sharing arrangements, the latest announcement does not confirm any particular engine or vehicle programme.
For Tata Motors, the collaboration offers an opportunity to extend the reach of its engineering and vehicle architecture capabilities beyond its own product portfolio. For Stellantis, it provides access to Indian-developed technology and an established manufacturing base.
