Volvo EX40 axed: Replacement coming soon?
Volvo has silently removed the EX40 from its official website. The dealerships are reported to have stopped taking fresh bookings, while the leftover cars in the lots are being dispensed at high discounts.
The EX40 was actually the XC40 when it began its life in India in 2018. It was first introduced with a turbo diesel engine, which later transitioned to a turbo petrol one with consistently strict emission norms. Later, Volvo launched its fully electric avatar, which was named EX40 in 2020.
With the EX40 now removed from the product list, Volvo currently has two cars on sale in India: EX30 and EC40. The former is offered with a 69 kWh battery pack, while the latter is a coupe EV that is powered by a 78 kWh battery pack.
Volvo plans to launch the updated EX40 in India by late 2026. The brand will also introduce the EX90 electric flagship SUV later this year or early next year.
