2026 Toyota Hilux to make India debut soon

Key Highlights

  • Toyota India is working towards launching the 9th-generation of the Hilux in India
  • It will likely be based on the Hilux Travo currently in sale in Thailand
  • It will retain the 2.8L diesel while possibly coming in a hybrid guise as well

The 9th-generation of the Toyota Hilux is expected to make its India debut soon. The lifestyle pick-up will be launched close to the festive season. The 9th-gen Hilux already made its global debut earlier this year and is sold in the Asian markets as the Hilux Travo.

What to expect

We can expect the India-spec Hilux to be very similar to the Travo sold in Thailand. The pick-up has been heavily restyled. The overall silhouette is pretty much the same as the outgoing model. The front get a brand new grille, sleek LED headlamps, DRLs, and a redesigned bumper. The tail section also sees a remodel. A new bumper, new tail lamps and redesigned tail opener gives it a fresh look.

The interior too gets a heavy upgrade. The cabin is modernised like the new Fortuner. There’s a new steering wheel, 10.5-inch infotainment display, a new digital intrument console, leather upholstery and a redesigned central control. Features will include, ADAS level-2, ventilated seats, wireless connectivity, dual-zone climate control, premium audio system and other updates.

Engine

Powering the new Hilux will be a 2.8L turbo diesel engine churning out 204 PS and 500 Nm of torque. Transmission duties will be taken care of by a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. There is a possibility that the 48V mild-hybrid system also makes its way.

There is a fully electric version being sold in Thailand. However, it might not make it to India as of now. For reference, the electric Trovo is powered by a dual-motor AWD system producing 196 PS. The 59.2 kWh battery pack promised a range close to 300 km.

Launch and pricing

There is no official word on the launch timeline however, we expect the car to be showcased close to the festive season. It will go on sale before the end of the month. As for the pricing, expect it to be higher by about Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh more than the outgoing variant.
