Mercedes-Benz India has introduced the new S 450e in India, marking the arrival of the brand’s first-ever plug-in hybrid S-Class in the country. Bookings for the new S-Class PHEV have opened immediately, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Hybrid powertrain
Powering the S 450e is a 3.0-litre M256 Evo inline-six turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor mounted between the engine and transmission.

Mercedes says the 115 km electric range should be sufficient for most daily urban commutes without requiring the petrol engine to kick in. For longer journeys, the combustion engine takes over seamlessly, eliminating range anxiety.
Other updates
The 2026 S-Class receives one of the most extensive updates in the model’s history, with Mercedes claiming that over 2,700 components have been newly developed, updated or refined.
On the outside, the luxury sedan gets:
- New DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps with micro-LED technology
- 40 percent larger high-beam illumination area
- High beam projection up to 600 metres
- Larger illuminated grille
- Revised tail lamps with three-star signature graphics
New MB.OS and bigger digital experience
The updated S-Class becomes one of the first Mercedes models in India to feature the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS).
Key highlights include:
- Latest-generation MBUX infotainment
- Standard MBUX Superscreen
- AI-powered “Hey Mercedes” virtual assistant
- Enhanced Zero Layer interface
- Google Maps-based Surround Navigation
- Improved voice interaction
Mercedes says the new software architecture integrates multiple vehicle systems into a single intelligent ecosystem.
Comfort remains the priority
The S-Class has always been about rear-seat comfort, and that continues here.
The S 450e comes standard with:
- AIRMATIC air suspension
- Rear-axle steering
- Adaptive ride control
- Intelligent suspension adjustment using cloud-based road data
Customers can also upgrade the rear-wheel steering angle from 4.5 degrees to 10 degrees, significantly reducing the turning circle and making the large limousine easier to manoeuvre in urban environments.
Safety
For the first time in India, the S-Class now comes equipped with 15 airbags.
Other safety highlights include:
- PRE-SAFE restraint systems
- Adaptive belt pretensioners
- Enhanced occupant protection systems
- Advanced driver assistance technologies
