Volkswagen Taigun Facelift spied testing for the first time

Key highlights

  • Camouflaged test mule reveals updated front and rear styling
  • Facelift expected to bring ADAS, 360-degree camera, and new infotainment features
  • Launch likely in early 2026 with existing engine options retained

Volkswagen has finally rolled out a camouflaged prototype of the Taigun facelift, spotted testing on Indian roads for the first time. With the Skoda Kushaq facelift also in the pipeline, it’s clear that the VW Group is gearing up for a synchronized refresh of its midsize SUV twins.

The test mule wears camouflage primarily at the front and rear, hinting at where the visual changes will land. Expect revised bumpers, a new grille, and updated LED headlamps and tail lamps. The side profile remains largely untouched, though new alloy wheels and paint options are likely to join the party.

Interior and Features

While interior shots haven’t surfaced yet, the facelifted Taigun is expected to pack a more premium cabin. Anticipate new upholstery, ambient lighting, and a refreshed infotainment system. The big news? Volkswagen is finally jumping on the ADAS bandwagon, with features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, and a 360-degree camera expected to make the cut.

This update should help the Taigun stay relevant in a segment that’s getting crowded with tech-savvy rivals like the Hyundai Creta and MG Astor.

Powertrain: No Surprises, Yet

Mechanically, the facelifted Taigun will stick to its current engine lineup. That means the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (115hp, 178Nm) and the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol (150hp, 250Nm) will continue to do duty. Transmission options will include the 6-speed manual, 6-speed torque converter, and 7-speed DSG.

Interestingly, Volkswagen is working on a new 8-speed automatic gearbox to replace the current 6-speed unit. It won’t debut with the facelift but is expected to arrive a few months later. Bonus: it’ll be locally manufactured, which could help pricing.

Our Thoughts

The Taigun has always had the bones of a great car, solid build, fun-to-drive nature. However, it needed a tech and styling upgrade to stay in the game. It’s about time VW stopped playing catch-up and started setting benchmarks. If they nail the pricing and don’t skimp on the feature list, this facelift could be the Taigun’s redemption arc.
